Fragmented sleep drives up sleep pressure, so you fall asleep in seconds — then get pulled back out before your body finishes a full cycle.

Why does perimenopause make it take longer to fall asleep?
At the other end of the spectrum, many women moving through perimenopause find that sleep onset lengthens — sometimes dramatically. Where they once fell asleep in ten minutes, they now lie awake for thirty, forty, or more.

Caffeine, later than you think. A frequently cited 2013 study by Drake and colleagues in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that caffeine consumed even 6 hours before bed measurably disrupted sleep. Hyperarousal. What helps you fall asleep at a normal pace?
The goal isn’t to hit a number. It’s to remove the friction so your natural onset process can run.

When is a slow sleep onset worth attention?
Occasionally taking a while to fall asleep is normal life.
